We usually hate memorizing.
Why do you think I have my entire calendar on my iPhone, or only keep track of birthdays with Facebook?
But the ability to memorize will help you capture respect in the world, her heart as you recite love poetry in college (so I've heard...), and most importantly for now, a grade in this class.
How to memorize? There's a billion tricks if you google it. Start by reading the passage, re-reading it, reciting it piece by piece, until it seems funny to you that at one time you didn't know it.
